JACK'S SURFBOARDS PRO: FIREWORKS ON OPENING DAY

The Jack's Surfboards Pro QS 1,000 fired into opening day action with beautiful, three-to-five foot, occasional plus conditions and competitors relished in the opportunity. Big performances highlighted Round 1 despite prevailing winds bringing in fog delays toward the end of the round. Round 2 Heats 1 through 5 were able to finish with more brilliant surfing as the delays pushed competition back. But, the damage was done as another big day awaits tomorrow.

The Jack's Surfboards Pro will be broadcast live August 5 - 8 at Huntington Beach, California - see the tagged events to find links to the live stream!

Brisa Hennessy (CRI) and Shun Murakami (JPN) claimed respective wins at the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) Corona Open China hosted by Wanning, a men’s and women’s QS 5,000, in phenomenal fashion. The 2019 Championship Tour (CT) Rookie of the Year and 2020 provisional Olympian Hennessy continued to display a dominant backhand attack to overcome an in-form Vahine Fierro (FRA) in their Final showdown while Murakami picked apart the lineup to dismantle former CT competitor Keanu Asing (HAW) in a stout finish.

Keanu Asing is the smallest surfer on Championship Tour, with one of the biggest personalities. The gritty Hawaiian scrapper grew up surrounded by surfing prodigies, rolling with the likes of Ezekiel Lau, Carissa Moore, and John John Florence on Oahu from the age of eight. In 2016, Keanu made a huge statement by winning the Quik Pro France. And he did it the hard way, defeating Kelly Slater, John John Florence and Gabriel Medina.

Keanu Asing claimed a massive win in Virginia Beach to earn 3,000 valuable points at the Vans Pro. A highly-anticipated Final awaited spectators as Asing did battle with three former Vans Pro winners including defending champion Evan Geiselman, former Championship Tour (CT) competitor Patrick Gudauskas, and current CT No. 28 Kanoa Igarashi.
