As the third stop on the 2025 World Surf League Championship Tour, this event is crucial for competitors looking to build momentum in their World Title campaigns. In addition, significant points are on the line for those looking to remain above the mid-season cut line. Fresh off of the Abu Dhabi wave pool event, the cold water wave's unique combination of power and fast takeoffs makes it an ideal stage for progressive surfing and dramatic competition.

Rookie Rippers 2024 l Jordy Smith & Laura Crane take on Johanne Defay & Ben Larg

That’s it for this years Rookie Rippers. An unforgettable few days where dreams were made for a group of young surfers. Team Jordy Smith & Laura Crane went head to head against Team Johanne Defay & Ben Larg. Our surf coaches, Philippe Malvaux and Ben Skinner, laid out the challenges and we saw a heated battle between the teams, but there can only be one winner. We also selected two new Rookie Rippers to join Team O’Neill. Thanks again to @thewave for having us, everyone who helped make this event possible and of course all the rippers!

More showstoppers provided an electric day of more heavily implicated showdowns. Cloudbreak pulsed to make the world’s best rise to the occasion and they did just that with technical barrels and powerful performances. Now, the last regular season Finals Day awaits to see who clinches the last spots toward the Lexus WSL Finals.

Last Training Sessions Before The Olympic Surfing Begins

For the past week and a half at Teahupo’o, in a range of surf conditions, a super eclectic bunch of surfers have been working their ways toward peak form — trying to set themselves for one of the great events of their lives. Some of this crew are world professional champions, some are virtual newcomers to this level of competitive skill. Most are somewhere in between. All will soon be surfing in the Olympic Games round one heats. Here’s a look at some of the intensity on show prior to competition. See if you can pick the form — and hear from some of the spectators out here at the End of the Road, as they assess what they’re seeing and wonder who’s going to wear the gold.
