JACK TAKES OVER CLOUDBREAK | Warm-up for the WSL Finals Fiji Australia’s Jack Robinson is primed and ready for the WSL Finals Fiji, after a win at the Tahiti Pro unlocked a fairytale run to the final five and booked his last-minute ticket to the South Pacific crown showdown. Following a four-year run in the high performance peaks of California’s Lower Trestles, this year’s WSL world champions will be decided in the heaving lefthand tubes of Fiji’s Cloudbreak. Surfing’s ultimate stage is now set for an end game of epic proportions. For Robinson, a preternatural tube riding talent who grew up with Western Australia’s vicious slabs as his playground, the scenario has never looked better. In the wake of his dominant run through the field at Teahupo’o’ his reflexive tube riding and ability to perform under pressure have never seemed more assured. With solid Cloudbreak conditions forecast ahead of the finals, Robinson flew to Fiji early to get acclimatised to a wave he’s quickly come to love, and one which could see him ascend surfing’s throne in the not-too-distant future. “It’s really special,” says Robinson, “Whatever is meant to be, is meant to be, when the timing is right.
