Growing up alongside four brothers earned her the nickname “Sister”, but Kelia Moniz is a household name on her own terms. In the third installment of our surf film series, the two-time WSL Longboard Champion is back home at Waikiki. Kelia was in the water as soon as she could walk, and it shows: she’s a champion of positivity for young female surfers and an innate environmentalist—the first to admit that the future is up to us, to embrace as our sacred responsibility. Here, the masterful longboarder and new mom welcomes us for an intimate portrait of the island, family, and waves that raised her.

She holds two WSL world titles, unsurprising given that she’s one of the most graceful and versatile surfers out there, equally fluid off the lip or cross-stepping to the nose. At the age of fourteen, she was not only competing against the world's best in longboarding—she was beating them.
