Day 5 Highlights - Drug Aware Margaret River Pro 2017

Sunday was another day of high drama at Margaret River, where the men's and women's competitions were boiled down to the final rounds. There are eight men left standing in the field, including World Champion John John Florence and current Jeep Leader Owen Wright. Meanwhile, it's the same story on the women's side, where only four surfers remain. Among them are World Champion Tyler Wright and current Jeep Leader Stephanie Gilmore.

Saturday was quite the surfing spectacle at Margaret River, as waves bigger than anyone predicted came pumping through the Main Break. The world's best - including John John Florence, Filipe Toledo, Owen Wright, Sebastian Zietz, and more - let loose in the big stuff, and delighted the fans with an incredible show.

Final Day Highlights - Quiksilver & Roxy Pro Gold Coast 2017

The 2017 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast will forever be remembered for Owen Wright's incredible comeback story. His surfing on the final day was vintage Owen - deep, fading backside bottom turns followed by over-rotated, fin release wafts. At first glance he lulls you to sleep, next thing you know he's cracked off three rhythmic turns with absurd fluidity. He's a surfer's surfer.

It was an emotional day full of twists and turns, not the least of which was Matt Wilkinson's return to the Final at Snapper for the second straight year. Florence, Medina, Slater and Parkinson made their intentions clear and all wrapped up solid results. Fanning, Smith and Andino will need to do better at the Margaret River event if they hope to stay in touch with the early leaders. The Title chase is officially on, and there are heaps of great stories and moments to look forward to as the Tour moves to West Oz.

On the women's side of the draw, the Roxy Pro saw the return of the Queen of Coolangatta, Stephanie Gilmore. It's an incredible sixth win at Snapper for a surfer with inherent grace, and a style perfectly suited for the legendary Sandbank. Back from an injury-plagued 2016, runner-up Lakey Peterson has re-emerged as a genuine contender. Her surfing has finally caught up to her athleticism. She'll be an interesting and fresh addition to the upper echelon of the Tour.

Meet the 2017 Billabong CT Team

The 2017 CT is back and already looking like it’s going to be one of the best years in the tour’s history. There are 5 Billabong surfers going along for this year’s wild ride including a few fresh faces like 2016 World Junior Champ Ethan Ewing and the Portuguese Prince Frederico Morais. The rookies will be joined by a few familiar faces like Joel Parkinson, Italo Ferreira and Jack Freestone as they paddle out at Snapper and get their season started. This year, Quiksilver has six surfers on the WSL’s Championship Tour, each representing a different region: Jeremy Flores (FRA), Ezekiel Lau (HAW), Wiggolly Dantas (BRA), Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA), Kanoa Igarashi (USA), Connor O’Leary (AUS). Ranging in age from 19 to 28, they are the new generation of Quiksilver surfers to make noise on surfing’s biggest stage.
