Skateboard park is a style of skateboarding featuring a variety of obstacles such as ramps, bowls, quarter pipes, and ledges arranged in a challenging and creative layout. Skateboarders use these obstacles to perform a variety of tricks, jumps, and grinds, incorporating a majority or all features into a single run. The athletes will complete as many runs as possible within the jam session, with their best run score counting towards final ranking. Competitors will be judged based on aggressive execution of maneuvers, degree of difficulty, variety, continuity of run, originality and style, amplitude (height of airs) and use of the course.

So what happened at the Skateboarding competition at #Paris2024?

As skateboarding makes its second Olympic appearance following its debut in Tokyo three years ago, one trend remains clear: teenagers dominate the sport. In Paris, 11-year-old Zheng Haohao of China, the youngest Olympian, competed in the women's skateboard park event. The average age of medalists in the women's events was just 15.🤯
In contrast, the men's competitions featured veteran skaters like 49-year-old Dallas Oberholzer from South Africa and 51-year-old Andy Macdonald. Many athletes came to Paris seeking redemption after falling short in Tokyo, leading to intense competitions where the medalists were decided in the final moments.

An X Games competitor since age 12 at XG Los Angeles 2012, with 12 medals from five different disciplines (Big Air, Big Air Doubles, Vert, Park, MegaPark), Tom Schaar is one of skateboarding's great all-around talents, a bigger-the-better skater known for huge airs and a calm, casual style. His video parts, including the epic 2021 Thrasher Magazine video "Airborne" (filmed partly at the SloanYard MegaPark) have made him equally beloved outside the contest scene. He earned 3 medals in 2023 alone: Skateboard Vert silver at X Games Japan, and bronze in both Park and MegaPark at X Games California. In July 2024, he won Skateboard Vert gold at X Games Ventura, his first win in the discipline; a few weeks later Tony Hawk welcomed him to the Birdhouse Skateboards team with a signature pro deck. In August 2024 he earned a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing USA.

The park best trick jam unleased 45 minutes of drop-in time for both men and women skateboarders to get after hammers and a chance to roll away with cash. The one big session was hectic but provided non-stop action that kept everyone on their feet. But that didn't dampen the mood of the park skateboarders as they waited for the moment we were all waiting for, and the show that ensued did not disappoint. A total of 18 park skateboarders dropped in, each taking their own unique angle at the curvatures, extensions, and out-of-bounce opportunities.
