Cornwall’s Best Day of the Year So Far

“I haven’t seen it look like this in years.” Videographer Sam Northover-Naylor is better known by his online pseudonym, The Atlantic Walrus – due to him looking exactly like that in the water: his words, not ours. He’s also spent a good portion of his life living over the road from this south coast chunk of rock – and knows all details of past sessions. And yesterday, as he says, was special.

This swell, from ex-hurricane Kirk, launched up the English Channel and beyond, setting off a whole bunch of spots along the way — including this magical reef in the Duchy of Cornwall. Full story, here:

Boardmasters Highlights: Epic First Day of Action for QS Animal Pro!

The Boardmasters Open WSL surfing events kicked off today in a building swell and glassy conditions to run a mammoth day of competition. The QS1,000 Animal Mens and Womens Pro completed 52 heats to decide the events’ finalists, with high-performance surfing and large crowds enjoying a picture-perfect summer day at Fistral.

The Animal Womens Pro Final will feature the 2019 winner Yolanda Hopkins (PRT) up against Ariane Ochoa (EUK), Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri (ESP) and Laura Coviella (CNY). The Animal Mens Pro will have a new winner as none of the four Finalist have previously won at Fistral, the showdown between Bitor Garitaonandia (ESP), Thomas Ledee (FRA), Marco Mignot (FRA) and Jobe Harriss (GBR) promises fireworks!

Longboarders will kick off their BFGoodrich Longboard Pro campaigns super early Friday morning, and we could wrap both competitions by the end of the day tomorrow!

Highlights from an epic day over at Fistral Beach 🏄 The Animal OPEN and BFGoodrich Longboard OPEN Women division winners have been crowned! Huge congratulations to the super talented longboarder Emily Currie and Alys Barton (who also took the Mystic Junior OPEN title earlier in the week!)

2021 British Nationals Finals Day Recap

On behalf of the Scottish Surfing Federation we would like to congratulate the British Surfing Champions of 2021 Lucy Campbell ENG and Stan Norman ENG whom along with fellow podium finishers 2nd place Emily Currie ENG, 3rd place Ellie Turner ENG, 2nd place Luke Dillon ENG and 3rd place Harry Cromwell WAL will lead the 2021 British Surfing Team.

We would also like to express a warm thank you to the team in Thurso who have done an outstanding job leading the event, our sponsors, our fellow home country federations (Channel Islands Surfing Federation, Surfing England and the Welsh Surfing Federation) and all whom have supported the safe execution of the British championships during these challenging times.

What an outstanding event - we would like to wish all athletes and their support staff a safe homeward journey and as the SSF we look forward to supporting the full British Surfing Team, as they prepare for the World Surfing Games in El Salvador and beyond
