Hávamál | Billabong Adventure Division

Join Ryan Callinan, Jack Freestone, Luana Silva, Anna Gudauskas and Chris Burkard on our latest journey to the Arctic Circle. Created in partnership with Wasted Talent, watch the crew explore the Scandinavian peninsula and venture deep into Norway’s countryside of mountains, fjords and glaciers, and score frigid but perfect waves in our latest Adventure Division film, ‘Hávamál.’

The surfers were greeted by raw, pumping conditions upon touchdown in Unstad – the birthpace of Norwegian surfing in the Lofoten Islands – now just a remote fishing zone with only 15 full-time inhabitants, once a critical region for the Nordic Vikings. Lead by veteran Scandinavian traveler and outdoor photographer/filmmaker, Chris Burkard, along with the two pioneers of the Norwegian surf community, Tommi and Marion, the crew had all the working knowledge required for a successful trip.

How to Train Like A Pro Surfer ft. Jack Freestone I Cariuma Surf

Get your dry land dialed with pro surfer Jack Freestone, who shares 6 essential training exercises to better your surfing and keep aches and pains at bay. Surf-eat-sleep is hardly a myth—”don’t get me wrong, I think the best exercise for surfing is surfing,” he says—but making time for a safe, (semi-regular) gym session translates directly to you feeling stronger and more relaxed in the water. Jack demos a mobility-focused warmup, followed by three surf-specific weighted and resistance exercises.

Before the Wave: At Home with Pro Surfer Jack Freestone I Cariuma Surf

Pro surfer Jack Freestone is constantly on the move. Following in the footsteps of fellow Gold Coast natives Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson, Jack was quick to establish himself as a powerful, incredibly adaptive freesurfer. Since 2016, he’s been traveling the globe in search of new waves and WSL Tour wins; though lately, family life is plenty kinetic for Jack and his partner in surf/life, Alana Blanchard. We caught up with him at home on Kauai, where the two are busy surfing, filming their wildly popular YouTube series, and passing on a shared love of the ocean to their son, Banks. (Oh, and don’t be fooled by his soft-spoken demeanor—Jack’s a force beyond reckoning, still blistering off the lip and landing massive aerials when he’s off dad duty.)

HEAT REPLAY Jack Freestone v Leo Fioravanti vs Dylan Moffat Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic presented by Corona, Men's Championship Tour - Elimination Round

The second stop on the mega-Australian Leg is Narrabeen. This beachbreak is home to one of the proudest and most hardcore surf scenes on the continent and was the site of the World Junior Championships for a decade. But while many of the faces on tour have competed here early in their career, with mere days between contests, it will be a challenge to regroup after Newcastle and refocus on Narrabeen.
