Surfing Queensland Rookie to Ripper A New Pathway for Junior Surf Development in Queensland Surfing Queensland is proud to launch the inaugural Rookie to Ripper program, a grassroots initiative designed to support and develop young surfers across the state. A total of 23 boardrider clubs across Queensland will participate in the program. Each club will deliver 12 training sessions as part of the initiative, specifically designed for junior boardrider club members. Sessions will take place from August 2025 through to February 2026. Surfing Queensland Rookie to Ripper is about building strong foundations, supporting clubs, and giving the next generation of surfers the tools, training and confidence to thrive in and out of the water. #SurfingQueensland #RookieToRipper #JuniorDevelopment #GrassrootsSurfing #BoardriderClubs #FutureChampions

2025 Parko's Junior Pro presented by Campbell Construction Co ran as a 10,000 point junior event. The six day event showcased Australia’s best junior surfing talent on the Sunshine Coast. Days 1-5 ran in peaky conditions at Ann St and Finals Day saw the Juniors take on the point break waves of Moffats. Congratulations to all of our Junior Champions and we can't wait to run it again next year! 2025 Gold Coast Open Highlights The 2025 Gold Coast Open was a WSL QS1000-rated surfing competition, that took place at the iconic Burleigh Heads in perfect conditions! Some of the best Australian and International surfers descended on the Gold Coast to compete in this three-day event. The Gold Coast Open is a celebration of surf and coastal culture the region is renowned for. The event also included a skate ramp with skate clinics and pro demonstrations, a beach bar, live music and wellness activations. History of professional surfing at Burleigh Heads: The Stubbies Surf Classic was established in 1977, organised that year by surfer, Peter Drouyn. Drouyn established the "man on man" competition format, where two surfers compete in each heat (where before four or even six was normal). This competition format is implemented today in both grassroots and professional surfing competitions.
