It's volume distribution favors fast wraps and quick speed generation in waves knee-high to overhead. The Thruster fin configuration allows you to ride as a Twin, a Twin with a trailer, or a Thruster, depending on your desired feeling. THE STORY BEHIND THE SHAPE Inspired by the shape of his favorite fruit, Rob Machado outlined the Machadocado with generous width for its length, taking proportional inspiration from an avocado - his favorite fruit for breakfast at home where he makes avocado toast for his family on the weekends. The magic in this fruit-inspired outline is the way that the generous width creates speed while the larger fin template close to the rail enables control, working in alignment with a perfectly thinned out foil. An idea 14 years in the making, the Machadocado was designed with weak waves in mind for easy speed creation when small waves aren't helping. Drawing from a deep history of performance surfing, Rob designed the thickness distribution from nose to tail in meticulous detail, ensuring the board can hold in the pocket without sacrificing the ability to create speed in flat sections. Surf Ride Oceanside Crowned as Southwest Surf Shop Challenge Champs | Oakley Surf Shop Challenge After losing the Southwest title to Sun Diego Mission Beach in 2017, Surf Ride Oceanside found redemption and solidified their spot at the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge National Championship in Nicaragua. Cooperating winds and a new SSW swell building throughout the day made conditions at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, CA on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 prime for the twelve competing shops to battle for top southwest honors and the coveted ticket to Nicaragua. With less than one and a half points separating the top three teams in the highly contested final, competitors were on edge as the final surfers tagged up to take to the water. In the end, Surf Ride Oceanside managed to squeeze out the win by a mere 0.34 over their fellow North County San Diego shop rivals Surf Ride Solana Beach. “That was the most exciting final I’ve ever seen,” says Surf Ride Oceanside’s Gabe Garcia, “we’re all super amped to go to Nicaragua!” The 2018 win marks the seventh Southwest regional Surf Shop Challenge title for Surf Ride Oceanside. (2018, 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2009, 2008) Congrats to Surf Ride Oceanside team members Gabe Garcia, Dayton Silva, Simon Hausmaninger, and Chris Murnane on taking the Southwest win.

2018 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge Teaser SURFER Magazine is pleased to announce the return of the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge in 2018. The regional qualifying series will kick off in May with three stops including the Southeast event at New Smyrna Beach in Florida on May 16/17/18, the Southwest event at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, CA on May 21/22, and the Northwest event at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, CA on May 24/25. Traversing the country, the series will make three additional stops in Southern California, Hawaii, and North Carolina searching for the best surf shop teams to represent their region in the National Championship this fall. The unique event series, which has been running since the 1980s, puts four-man surf shop teams (two sponsored surfers and two shop employees) against each other. The winning team from each of the six regional qualifiers will win an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the National Championship at Playa Colorado in Rivas, Nicaragua for a chance to win a cash prize package and the ultimate title of America’s Most Core Surf Shop. “Oakley is excited to partner once again with SURFER on the best running shop series in the country,” said Oakley’s Marty Mathiesen. “Surfing roots itself in local surf shops, and we are proud to support them with the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge. It’s our opportunity to give back and say thanks; giving both the employees and team riders a chance to compete together amongst the best surf shops in the country.” New for 2018, all teams who compete at Oakley Surf Shop Challenge regional locations will have a last chance opportunity to punch their ticket to the National Championships at Playa Colorado in Nicaragua by competing in the GoPro Wildcard Contest.
