What You Need to Know - Lexus WSL Finals The World Title Showdown Awaits at Lower Trestles. History will be made. Legends will be crowned. After nine regular season events, the Lexus WSL Finals brings the top 5 men and top 5 women in professional surfing to Lower Trestles for a one-day, winner-take-all, showdown for the coveted title of World Champion. From Pipeline and Portugal to Teahupo'o and Cloudbreak, it has been a hard fought season for the world's best surfers. Ten surfers enter, and only two will emerge as Champions and add their name to the legacy of the sport. This September, current world No. 1 John John Florence will be making his first appearance at Lower Trestles as a World Title contender. Caitlin Simmers, in only her sophomore season as a CT athlete, will be making her second run at a World Title while also donning the Yellow Leader Jersey. Meanwhile, world No. 2 and defending champion Caroline Marks will be back in front of her home crowd to defend her World Title. Tour veterans will battle a new generation of talent for the World Title this September at Lower Trestles. History will be made, and legacies will be defined. My Name is João Chianca João Chianca is Brazilian surfing’s next great world title hope but that doesn’t mean life has been easy for the boy from Saquarema. Growing up in the shadow of his older brother, world-renowned big wave charger Lucas, Chianca has forged his own brilliant path in pursuit of greatness. “My Name Is João Chianca” allows the viewer to ride shotgun on Chianca's journey, from the initial high of making the WSL Championship Tour to the crushing low of not making the mid-year cut in his rookie season. We then follow Chianca on his resurgent requalification run, onto his first big Championship Tour win the following year, before he eventually finishes 2023 ranked fourth in the world and qualified for the Olympics. Disaster strikes in Hawaii before the first event of the 2024 season, as Chianca prepares for the biggest year of his surfing life. Warming up in treacherous conditions at Pipeline, Chianca is knocked unconscious, rescued by fellow surfers and revived by lifeguards on the beach. Faced with his own mortality surfing takes a backseat to rehabilitation and recovery, but as Chianca's physical and mental health return to full strength so does his prowess in the water.
