Semi Finals Day #SOG02025 The 2025 Soundboks Oz Grom Open incorporating the Traeger Grills Pro Junior heated up today as competitors duked it out in an attempt to solidify a spot into the coveted final day of competition. Sunshine Coast native Jesse Fergusson (Noosa, Qld) found himself at home in the playful little peaks as he managed to nail a series of critical carves and snaps to cement himself a spot into the semi-finals of the Traeger Grills Pro Junior. Fergusson's performance in the quarterfinals saw he was able to progress through the heat with a respectable 12.43 heat total. Fergusson will meet fellow Sunshine Coast surfer Landen Smales in the semi-finals. Other Traeger Grills Pro Junior semi-heat winners included Smales, Mitchell Peterson (Noosa, Qld) and Harley Walters (Angourie, NSW). The girls final of the Traeger Grills Pro Junior will be an all Burleigh battle with Ziggy Aloha Mackenzie taking on Isla Huppatz in tomorrow's final. Both Mackenzie and Huppatz put on a valiant effort in their semis posting above-average score to lock in their position in the final. All Traeger Grills Pro Junior will take place tomorrow. Leihani Zoric (Byron Bay, NSW) continued to fly the flag for the north coast locals with the exciting natural-footer posting a solid 12.33 two-wave total to earn her spot into the Under-14 Girls semi-finals. Local surfer Ashton Crowley (Lennox Head, NSW) came within whiskers of a fairytale finish for the local Lennox Head community, smashing his way into the 16 Boys semi-final, however he had to be content with an equal third place victory after placing second to Hamish Harrigan. The 2025 Soundboks Oz Grom Open incorporating the Traeger Grills Pro Junior will recommence tomorrow morning with the World Surf League (WSL) Pro Junior event expecting to kick off the day's proceedings. The 2025 Soundboks Oz Grom Open incorporating the Traeger Grills Pro will take place from 3–8 July 2025. As one of the most prestigious junior surfing competitions globally, the Soundboks Oz Grom Open brings together top-level competitors contending for national rankings, with the U16 and U18 divisions vying for selection to represent Australia at the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Championships. The Soundboks Oz Grom Open event features both the U14 to U18 divisions (competing for national rankings and ISA selection) and the WSL Traeger Grills Pro Junior, where surfers under 21 battle for qualification to the upcoming WSL World Junior Championships. This unique combination of elite junior talent and professional-level competition makes the event one of the most exciting junior surf events worldwide. With divisions for both boys and girls and a strong focus on inclusivity and youth empowerment, the event celebrates surfing's universal appeal—fostering confidence, community, and connection among the next generation of champions.
