A Gathering At The Cliffs: Big Barrels in Ireland Last week, an El Niño fuelled active jet stream in the West Atlantic sent a very solid shot of swell all over Western Europe. Ireland was one of its beneficiaries, as evidenced by this very cold, clean and large session at at a popular slab beneath Ireland's cascading cliffs. “It’s always cold,” local surfer Taz Knight said, “when those winter high pressures sit over head, dragging the cold down from the north. The week had been pretty baltic. There was a bit of cloud cover on the day to hold off the nip, but not enough to stop the hands freezing on the walk down. “The swell didn’t quite show up as hoped, but it had been down-grading in the days leading up to it, so it wasn’t unexpected. It was still pretty pumping. One wave sets every 20 minutes made for some long cold waits. “There were plenty of medium-sized fun ones, but it always feels slow when there are so many heads in the water. The crowd was pretty relaxed, all the usual suspects having the craic. It’s hard not to just sit in awe under those cliffs. The boogs put on a clinic as always. Jack Johns probably got wave of the day from what I saw. Crazy, big long tubes and just got munched at the end. One Last Look At The Epic Surf Videos Of 2018 Join us for a final look at one of the most exciting years in surfing. 2018 was packed with epic moments in surfing, from Indonesia to Portugal, and everywhere between. Hawaii has been getting blitzed by swell, and things are heating up over at Nazaré. West Oz's Infamous Slab "The Right" Rages Again. | Sessions As the Southern Ocean's 2018 winter wave season goes full tilt, big wave rider Ross Clarke-Jones heads to West Australia's infamous slab, The Right, for a tow session that won't soon be forgotten. From Nazaré to Waimea, Shipstern to The Right, no matter how quick in succession the swells may be, there's a chance you'll see Clarke-Jones out there, getting crazier waves than almost anybody else. But let's not forget the locals, who always lead the charge when The Right comes alive and rages. Guys like Jake Osman, Brad Norris and Zac Haynes have logged some of the craziest barrels we've ever seen, and their performances in the edit above is no exception by a long shot.
