Skateboard GB Presents "The Thing"

We are excited to launch "The Thing", a short documentary which follows some of the Skateboard GB national team on a trip to Ostia, Italy, in preparation for the 2023 Skateboard Park World Championships.

To compete and win is important, but not as important as the journey. Now more than ever, with the world watching, taking notes and a sports filter being applied, it's essential to do this 'thing' authentically and be as "true to skateboarding" as possible.

Skateboard GB Performance Manager Darren Pearcy said:
"We're here because we love skateboarding. It's as simple as that. We will not compromise skateboarding's values or culture for competitive success, but we will use them to drive us to where we want to go. Success at the destination should be the outcome of a meaningful and fun journey. It's got to be 'bigger than the rings', or it's not worth doing."

The Thing is the journey.
The Thing is to compete.
The Thing is to have fun.
The Thing is skateboarding.

Thank You Skateboard GB Team!

The time is upon us; the Tokyo 2020 Olympics starts today, and this will be the first time skateboarding is included in the games.

We want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to the Skateboard GB team and all of the skateboarders who represented Great Britain over the last three years.

It takes great courage, dedication and effort to compete at an international level, and for that, we can’t thank you enough.

Skateboarders qualify for the Olympic Games by competing at World Skate qualification events. The top twenty ranked skateboarders (in each discipline) book themselves a place in Tokyo.

Each country is allowed 3 athletes per gender, per event. For example, USA may have 7 skaters in the top 20, but only the first 3 would qualify. We then display this as a 'Clean List' rank.

Both Sky Brown qualified in 3rd position and Bombette Martin in 19th (on a clean list) and will compete for @TeamGB in Tokyo.

Rolling Through the Holy Land - Monster Energy

Rolling Through The Holy Land with Monster Energy team riders Sam Beckett, Rune Glifberg, and Tom Schaar.

Israel is home to one of the world’s oldest cities, yet it has some of the most modern skate spots on Earth; and although Israel has become synonymous with unrest, the authorities are surprisingly lenient in regards to skateboarding (it’s pretty much encouraged). Having officially gained its independence in 1948, Israel is made up of magnificent contemporary architecture (which are abundant in Tel-Aviv) and ancient edifices that still seem virtually untouched.

The crew visited the country’s incredible mix of old and new spots, and Holon, Galit, Netanya, and Ashod skateparks. For each rider, it was their first time in the Holy Land. Glifberg has a video project in the works, and he brought his fellow travelers along for the ride. The trip spanned two weeks, and while Glifberg was already aware of the significance of Israel in the Bible he wasn’t prepared for how strong the skate scene is in the country. “There was a good amount of skateboarders at all the skateparks we went to,” adding that the experience was “cultural, welcoming, and completely awesome.”

Next time you get kicked out from a spot, just keep the faith—and book a ticket to the Holy Land.
