What's up

Skateboarding Around The World | Best Of Red Bull Skateboarding 2021 2021 was a big year for all of us here at Red Bull Skateboarding: from the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the palm trees of Brazilian backyard bowl bonanzas, our signature live experiences returned for those lucky enough to attend in the flesh- and broadcast live around the planet for anyone else to savour from the comfort of our own homes. Elsewhere in skateboarding’s biggest year ever, we went street level in some of the world’s most iconic cities: from meeting the locals in Philadelphia, to shredding unseen Shanghai, to spot-hunting in a near-deserted Prague. Our intrepid travel series Skate Escape saw the first pro skate tour of Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo, while half a world away in the Philippines our girl Margie Didal showed us how necessity can be the mother of invention as she gave us a sneaky peek at her new personal indoor training spot. One of the biggest skate projects undertaken in 2021 was of course TJ Rogers’ epic love letter to the Canadian skate scenes of his youth, Steady Pushing. His gargantuan road odyssey across Canada capped a year which saw his effervescent disposition and ageless ability on a skateboard put TJ close to the top of everyone’s favourite skater lists. While the eyes of the world turned to skateboarding’s debut in Tokyo last summer, we continued as ever throughout the year to support, promote and document the wilder shores of skateboarding culture which flourish both within and without the spotlight. This, then, is a sampler of some of the fun Red Bull Skateboarding had in 2021. Hope to see you out there in 2022, and beyond!

Weary Travellers | TJ Rogers 'Steady Pushing' in partnership with 7-Eleven Ep 4/4 Vancouver here we come! TJ Rogers’ month long mega-tour of his old skate stomping grounds concludes as the van rolls out of Calgary headed for the western seaboard and the end of the skating road for Steady Pushing. Stopping first in picturesque Banff, Alberta to session what might be the most photogenic skatepark in the world, TJ then heads to Kootenay, British Columbia to visit Driftopia, another off-grid skateboarding getaway, this time owned by Daniel ‘Alien’ Nelson, and where the entire Emerica team once showed up. The story of Driftopia is one which will resonate with everyone inside and outside of the Canadian skate scenes who knew Josh Evin, the inspiration behind the loveheart bowl there. Bidding goodbye to Alien and his magical project, all roads lead to Vancouver where TJ meets skate photographer Norma Ibarra to find out how skateboarding in Canada is changing, and TJ’s constant skate companion Mitch Barrette tells his own incredible winding life story. A month on the road, a whole country-worth of skate scene snapshots and fascinating stories needing to be told went into Steady Pushing. Thank you to all the skaters and scenes who gave of themselves to make it happen. For all the dead legs and road miles involved, we hope you have enjoyed it! If you'd like to hear what TJ had to say about his marathon skate mission, read his interview here:

The Land of the Buffalo | TJ Rogers 'Steady Pushing' in partnership with 7-Eleven Ep 3/4 Episode 3 of Steady Pushing finds us in the prairielands of central Canada, as TJ Rogers’ rewind through the skate scenes of his youth takes in both Winnipeg and Calgary and we meet up with the incredible Joe Buffalo. Dropping in on family skateshop Sk8 Skates to meet up with shop riders Erik Penton and Fane Smeall for a street-level tour of the skate terrain of Manitoba’s capital, TJ then heads out into the vast wilderness of Canada’s plains to Regina, Saskatchewan for a rendezvous with the Samson Cree Nation. Joining TJ for an overnight journey through Grasslands national park are Canadian OG’s Mitch Barrette and Joe Buffalo, an amazing skateboarder and activist for Nations Skate Youth which celebrates First Nation culture through skateboarding. Joe takes TJ to the reserve he grew up skating in and shares his own remarkable story, before escorting our crew to Calgary to visit with Nine Times skate shop and session some of the best skate spots Alberta has to offer. An eye-opener of an episode deep inside the unique culture of Canadian skateboarding, we guarantee you are going to love it! Watch Red Bull TV:
