Australian Julian Wilson has won both the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons, and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing after defeating World Champion elect Gabriel Medina (BRA) in the closest Pipe Final on record. The victory marks his only win of the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) and his second CT win of his career. He pocketed $100,000 for the event win and a bonus $50,000 for the Triple Crown series.

BANZAI PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Friday, December 19, 2014) - Gabriel Medina, 20, made history today, becoming the first Brazilian to claim the prestigious ASP World Title, besting an international field of world-class athletes on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT). The young Brazilian secured his remarkable world surfing crown at the final stop of the season, the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons on Oahu’s North Shore.

HONOLUA BAY, Maui/Hawaii: Carissa Moore (HAW) has won the Target Maui Pro presented by Schick Hydro Silk after defeating Tyler Wright (AUS) in a hard fought Final. Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) has claimed victory at the Cascais Women’s Pro after defeating Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) in a hard fought Final. The pair battled at the back-up site of Bafureira in two-to-four foot waves and Gilmore posted the day’s only nine-point ride to secure the win against Fitzgibbons. (BAFUREIRA, Cascais, Portugal)

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) is pleased to announce that in 2015 the ASP will change its name to the World Surf League. In a letter to the surfing community, CEO Paul Speaker explains that the change is happening because the new name will help bring the sport of professional surfing to more fans, athletes and partners worldwide. The ASP will continue to operate under the existing name until the end of 2014 and in January 2015, will begin the season as the World Surf League.

JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa: A thrilling Finals day at the J-Bay Open, stop No. 6 of 11 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), saw Mick Fanning (AUS) crowned event champion in epic conditions at Supertubes. The reigning three-time ASP World Champion faced fellow Australian Joel Parkinson in an historic and hard-fought Final in flawless conditions. Super Saturday at Jeffreys Bay saw the world’s best surfers take to the water in pumping six-to-ten foot surf and thousands of fans gathered to watch the final 12 surfers battle the waves and each other. Surfing legends Tom Curren (USA) and Mark Occhilupo (AUS) also took on the classic walls of J-Bay as part of the ASP Heritage Series.
