Surfboard Shaper Ryan Harris Talks Social and Environmental Activism - The Inertia Last May, with the revival of the Black Lives Matter Movement across the planet, Los Angeles-based shaper Ryan Harris was already keeping busier than usual, as stay-at-home orders pushed more people into lineups, creating a refreshed demand for surfboards he estimates equaled about six month’s worth of orders in two month’s time. Ryan's Earth Technologies is a leader in environmentally-friendly board building techniques. But with some nudging from his friend, Selema Masekela, Harris moved his platform and influence outside the shaping bay. This is the story from our EVOLVE Summit.

This Surfboard Made of Used Masks Will Benefit the Ocean - The Inertia Ryan Harris is a pioneer of eco-surfboard technology. With a zero-waste factory in Los Angeles, California, he continues to push boundaries in functional craft that inspires better decision-making for the planet. This surfboard in particular is made from used masks, used straws, and used carbon fiber. Most people would view it as junk. Not the case. It's also a submission in Vissla's Upcycle contest, and Ryan and his label Earth Technologies are raffling the board off to benefit Vote the Ocean, a non-profit with the ocean's interests at heart.
