2025 Natural Selection Tour Highlights: Surf, Bike, Snowboard & Ski

In 2025, Natural Selection Tour redefined competitive adventure sports seamlessly blending surf, mountain biking, snowboarding, and skiing on Mother Nature’s terrain and most dynamic locations. From the heavy, barreling waves of Micronesia to the rugged terrain of New Zealand, perfect powder in Revelstoke, and Alaskan spines, this season showcased the versatility and skill of top athletes across all four sports.

Starting off in Micronesia, surfers faced dynamic conditions at Natural Selection Surf, with the possibility of catching a ‘a best wave of your life,’ was balanced out by jagged reef deep in the Pacific Ocean. Cutting-edge camera technology captures the beauty and power of the ocean while showcasing competitive surfing at its highest level.​

In Aotearoa New Zealand, riders blend freeride and slopestyle into a single line on an all-new venue on Mt. Dewar for the debut of Natural Selection Bike. The event brings together the best men’s and women’s riders from big mountain, slopestyle, freeride, and downhill, competing in a stunning new venue in Queenstown.​

2025 Research and Development: Pushing Female Snowboarding to New Heights

Research and Development (RnD), presented by Arc'teryx and YETI, took over the sidecountry of Whitewater Ski Resort in Nelson, BC, for one of the most progressive backcountry events of the 2025 season. Eighteen fearless female snowboarders took freestyle big mountain riding to the next level—showcasing creativity, raw power, and serious style. Massive sends, technical lines, stomped landings, and double backies made this an unforgettable showdown.

Helmed by backcountry pioneer Robin Van Gyn, RnD is revolutionizing female snowboarding with an immersive experience that accelerates riders’ growth, opens doors to new opportunities, and connects them with top-tier photographers and filmmakers. Combining mentorship, competition, and a two-day filming segment, the event elevates riders’ skills, merging freestyle with backcountry riding.

Who laid down the heaviest tricks, the gnarliest lines, and the cleanest runs? And who delivered the best two-day film segment? Research & Development

On March 20th of 2024, 14 Riders descended on Whitewater Ski Resort to try on competitive backcountry for size. The first inagural Research & Development event invited these riders to film and compete in a perfect off resort venue for a chance to compete in the NST in 2025 and 5k in prizing.
Without a doubt, the riders showed up blazing and made it obvious to us what is possible if given the opportunity. This edit covers the week of shredding and the result of a perfect arena for new riders to show us what they are made of.
