Expect non-stop skateboarding, mayhem, and a massive party, all packed into one unforgettable day at one of Europe’s most iconic skateparks.

Madars Apse accompanies Peter Hewitt back to San Diego where his lifelong skate career began!

San Diego’s Peter Hewitt is perhaps THE underground legend of the skating world today.
From a 1990 debut video part in Santa Cruz’s A Reason For Living, he has become one of skateboarding’s most storied shredders.

You could go so far as to say that Peter Hewitt represents skateboarding’s backbone: in a world where people like to push themselves forward, Peter is not competing in the attention economy.

The roots revivalist is one of skateboarding’s great soul survivors: longstanding member of the hellriding Anti-Hero team, elite vert skater, background pool charger and a skater almost revered for his spontaneous creativity in the gnarliest pits in the game.

Peter’s skateboarding has been an ongoing quest on the edge of reason in terrain that even masters avoid. Skate Tales takes the low-key ruler back to his own roots to sample concrete for breakfast as Madars meets skateboarding’s undisputed king of the unconquerable, Peter Hewitt.

DIY Riot 2023 | Vans x TITUS | Jason Lijnzaat, Dannie Carlsen, Takeshi Kageyama

Start of construction in 2011, completion in 2013, demolition in 2023 - this is how one can succinctly describe the history of the skaters' place "DIY Parkplatz-Bowls" in Münster. Created back then as the cities first major DIY project, the gravel car park is hard to imagine without a bowl in its corner. Every year a contest, the DIY Riot, every year more and more riders, a programme expanded over the years with barrel jump and various "side actions" made the "kick-off event" of the Vainstream Festival a contest that attracted attention throughout the whole of Europe. Nevertheless, after ten years, time gnaws at even the hardest concrete and so it was time to make room for something new - of course not without a fitting farewell to this era. So, one last time DIY Riot on old "Turf", again bigger and better than last year and with a glamorous finale that couldn't have been any better!

Baubeginn 2011, Fertigstellung 2013, Abriss 2023 – so kann man kurz und knapp die Geschichte des Skaters-Place „DIY Parkplatz-Bowls“ in Münster beschreiben. Damals als das erste große DIY Projekt der Stadt geschaffen, ist der Schotterparkplatz ohne einen Bowl in seiner Ecke kaum vorstellbar. Jedes Jahr ein Contest, der DIY Riot, jedes Jahr mehr und mehr Fahrer, ein über die Jahre ausgeweitetes Programm mit Barrel-Jump und diversen „Side-Actions“ machten den „Kick-Off Event“ des Vainstream Festivals zu einem europaweit beachteten Contest. Dennoch, nach zehn Jahren nagt auch am härtesten Beton die Zeit und so war es an der Zeit, Platz für Neues zu schaffen – natürlich nicht, ohne einen gebührenden Abschuss dieser Ära. Also, noch ein letztes Mal DIY Riot auf altem „Turf“, wieder größer und wieder besser als im Vorjahr und mit einem glamourösen Finale wie es besser nicht hätte sein können!
