Amy Purdy: Love for Snowboarding Conquers All | Beyond the Bib

What's up

Amy Purdy: Stepping Forward | Beyond the Bib Episode 2, Season 4 Reading a letter that she wrote to herself when she was 19-years-old, Amy reflects on the first time her world was flipped upside down as she now faces a new challenge. Her latest situation has given her a new perspective on life while experiencing firsthand the depths of life’s highs and lows. Instead of despair, Amy has found a way to channel her experience and learnings into something positive by sharing her story with others, many of whom are dealing with obstacles of their own, both large and small. By stepping out of her comfort zone and sharing those difficult stories, she’s opened the conversation on social media for those who may have otherwise not shared their own trials and tribulations. Contemplating what it means to ‘get better’ Amy realizes, “We can get so attached to thinking that life will begin when I’m better. And in our minds, we think that better means what we were before. But you can be even better by embracing where you are today. It’s about stepping forward.” Directed by Jeremy Pettit

Amy Purdy: In the Face of Adversity | Beyond the Bib Episode 1, Season 4 In February 2019, Amy Purdy developed a dangerous blood clot that prevented her from using her left prosthetic leg. This is the first time in 20 years she has missed a season on snow. Initially, doctors told her that the clot would never go away on its own and would potentially lead to the loss of more of her leg, or even result in losing the ability to walk completely. When her situation seemed most dire, a ray of hope shone through. Another doctor was willing to try a new surgical method to increase blood flow to her leg. Along with some other treatment options, Amy began to see improvement, and her optimism is returning, as she seeks some comfort in reflecting on some of her own advice: “It’s not about the outcome. A good life is about appreciating the moment as it is. It’s not about stepping back into our old lives, it’s about stepping forward into our new lives. Being mentally and emotionally flexible to change and conform to the new. This is how I did it before, and how I plan on doing it again.” Directed by Jeremy Pettit

Amy Purdy: Bringing Snowboarding to the Adaptive Masses | Beyond the Bib The mission, to provide the path for others that didn’t exist for her. Amy Purdy co-founded Adaptive Action Sports with her husband in 2005 and has been changing people’s lives ever since. Providing inspiration and a platform for competition to adaptive athletes around the world has become a huge part of Pury’s life, and she does it all with hopes to simply share what she loves with others. Get a glimpse of the platform Purdy has helped create to change the lives of people, and hear her explain how sharing her love for snowboarding has become a passion of its own.
