Surfers Not Street Children x O'Neill Nine talented surfers from ‪@surfersnotstreetchildren6916‬ (SNSC) made the journey to Jeffreys Bay for the South African Championships. SNSC is a Durban-based organization that uses surfing and mentorship, to support and uplift young people. What started as a street outreach program has grown into a powerful force for change. The week in Jeffreys Bay was filled with valuable lessons, laughter, and good vibes. Having surf legends ‪@JordySmith88‬ and Paul Canning on hand to mentor and support the crew made it all the more meaningful. We’re proud to stand behind SNSC and can’t wait to see these young surfers continue to grow!

Surfers Not Street Children - The Board Drive Surfers Not Street Children’s new film The Board Drive is a story of how one surfboard in a shed kick-started a full-scale board-drive in the UK, that brought hope and smiles to hundreds of kids living in tough and challenging environments in South Africa and Mozambique. The Surfers Not Street Children model fuses surfing, mentorship and care and has dedicated local teams that include social workers, carers, lifeguards, surf coaches and administrators. The program has transformed the lives of many children with an impressive portion of participants going from ‘street children' to becoming coffee baristas, lifesavers, surf shop staff, restauranteurs, surf coaches and even pro surfers. SURFERS NOT STREET CHILDREN | O'NEILL We’re proud to launch a limited collection that is inspired by the story of Surfers Not Street Children. Surfers Not Street Children is a program to identify and empower street children in South Africa and Mozambique with the goal to help transform a child’s future and help them build a life of self-sustainability and independence. This collection is inspired by the iconic SNSC Durban Headquarters door design painted by the children of the program under the direction of a fellow supporter and Durban artist, Mook Lion. About Surfers Not Street Children: Surfers Not Street Children was founded in 1998 by activist and surfer, Tom Hewitt MBE. Originally under the name Durban Street Team (DST), it was run by a maverick crew of social workers, carers and activists scouting the streets of downtown Durban to identify and assist homeless street children. The organization fused mentorship and care with arts and sports programs—including surfing, which the children totally embraced, leading to the organization to be renamed Surfers Not Street Children. The organization has played a major role in the response to the street children phenomenon in Durban, and empowered many children to leave street life. Many have gone on to engage in global advocacy and fight a frontline battle for the rights of local street children, and they’ve had a great impact on changing how society perceived and treated street children in South Africa. Through it all, surfing has been the heart and identity of the organization, and the model of fusing surfing with mentorship and care became the backbone of the work that continues today in Durban and Tofo.
