SISTERHOOD BY THE SEA This is a story about the first-ever female focused program in the Afro-Caribbean community of Old Bank on the small island of Bastimentos in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. The CTF team worked with our partners at Give and Surf to create and fund a 10 week curriculum called the Women’s Outreach Mentorship Program (WOMP) to present the ocean to the girls in a new light, creating personal and physical development exercises and workshops, swim and SUP lessons and empowering the girls to discover that together we are better. What was once a scary place for them, later became a sacred place of solitude and tranquility, a new world to discover and a place to be their age and escape their worries. These lessons in turn, broaden perspectives and create a space to dream with a chance to change their cultural norms of gender disparities and limited opportunities.
