The debut Olympic Surfing competition is on the cusp of history, set to crown the first-ever Olympic Champions on July 27.

8 women and 8 men remain in the running for medals, with the finals scheduled to run Tuesday at Tsurigasaki beach.

Surfers officially joined the action at the Tokyo 2020 Games on July 25, riding the historic first waves ever in Olympic competition.

The world’s best surfers hailing from 18 countries around the globe took to the water at Tsurigasaki beach to display the youthful, high-performance values of Surfing to the widest global audience to ever witness the sport.

The first heats of Olympic Surfing competition are on schedule to start on July 25 at Tsurigasaki Beach in Chiba, Japan. History will be made as surfers represent their nations and pursue medals on the Olympic stage for the first time ever.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING: SURFERS INAUGURATE TOKYO 2020 OPENING CEREMONY

History has been made at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. For the first time ever, surfers were among the 200+ nations represented at the event’s Opening Ceremony.

Four surfers, Morocco’s Ramzi Boukhiam, Indonesia’s Rio Waida and Peru’s Lucca Mesinas and Daniella Rosas, all marched for their nations in the Opening Ceremony as flag bearers, representing the new wave of Olympic athletes from one of the three new youth-oriented sports (Surfing, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing).

ISA Continental Youth Athlete Development Program 2022 On the days prior to the 2022 ISA World Juniors, the ISA and Olympic Solidarity partnered to support future generations of surfers. The ISA Continental Youth Athlete Development Program happened at Surf City, El Salvador. Six nations from the Americas were selected to participate in the first stage of this Program. This innovative opportunity helped to plant a seed by building technical skills and holistic long term development strategies for potential future Olympians and coaches from developing Surfing nations.
