Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn is ready for an extra-long Freestyle season!

Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark is prepared for an extra-long freestyle season. Snowboarders and freeskiers can have a good time, hone their skills, or just have fun in the snow in the 3 snow parks and the superpipe until May. Thanks to the abundant snowfall of the last few weeks, Central Park is in great shape. Its set-up currently comprises 8 obstacles, including 4 kickers between 5 and 13 meters as well as a quarter tube, an 11-meter down rail and a rainbow rail.

The set-up of the South Central Park consists of 8 obstacles. In addition to a 12-meter Rainbow Rail, there are several tubes and a smooth, 11-meter Down Flat Down Rail. South Central Park is immediately followed by Easy Park. Besides boxes, tubes and rails, it also offers an easy kicker line. Here, beginners and advanced riders can learn new tricks or improve their kicker skills. At the end of the Easy Park, the Hip Jump leads into the Central Park enabling you to do a lot of obstacles in one run! The snow-park team around head shaper Wolfgang Hilberger is currently working on adding more elements to all parks.

In the Kitzsteinhorn superpipe, the conditions are excellent as well. Alli Zehetner, who built the halfpipes at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics, worked together with the experienced Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark crew to create a 150-meter-long and 6.50-meter-high superpipe that allows for safe and high jumps. Numerous athletes who went on to win medals in Beijing practiced in this facility during the Superpipe Training Weeks last fall. With Ayumu Hirano (JPN), Scotty James (AUS) and Jan Scherrer (SUI), the entire male halfpipe podium had trained their tricks here, just like women’s silver medalist Queralt Castellet (ESP) and bronze medallist Sena Tomita (JPN). Same with the freeskiers: Nico Porteous (NZL), David Wise (USA) and Alex Ferreira (USA), the top three of the men’s Olympic halfpipe competition, had practised at the Kitzsteinhorn as well as female silver medalist Cassie Sharpe (CAN) and third-placed Rachael Karker (CAN).

Powder fields, cliff jumps and natural pipes: Thanks to its snow-reliability due to the high altitude, Kitzsteinhorn is a real highlight for freeriders. They love the five marked ski routes that provide deluxe backcountry fun: “Ice Age”, “Westside Story”, “Left Wing”, “Jump Run” and “Pipeline” please freeriders with varied terrain. Before they drop in, they can get the latest information on the freeride routes, weather, snow and avalanche conditions as well as equipment tips at the Freeride Info Base near the Alpincenter where they can also check their avalanche transceiver. Following the motto “Safety first!”, they will also find topographical maps with important information about the steepness of the slope, dangerous spots, and the most beautiful line at the Freeride Info Points. Workshops for beginners and advanced skiers are offered in cooperation with two ski schools on the “Freeride Mondays”.

Ski tourers and splitboarders will find two marked ascent routes on the Kitzsteinhorn, both alongside the piste from Langwiedboden (1,976 m): finishing at the Alpincenter at 2,450 m, the “Schneekönigin” route overcomes 474 vertical metres. The longer “Eisbrecher” route even leads over 899 vertical metres to the top station of the Maurerlift at 2,870 m. Guided ski tours are offered every Thursday: a mountain guide takes the participants up the pristine Tristkogel (2,642 m). The guiding by the state-certified mountain guides is Euros 95.00 (excl. ski ticket). Numerous events will deliver additional entertainment and exude good vibes at the Kitzsteinhorn in spring. On March 26, 2022, the pros of the freeride scene will compete at the X OVER RIDE 2022 and collect points for the qualification for the Freeride World Tour. The crowning highlight for the freestylers will be the World Rookie Tour Snowboard Finals from March 28 to April 1. On April 2, the Austrian Snowpark Days will follow, a kids coaching session in the snow park with the Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV). From April 21 to 24, 2022, the Austrian & German Freeski Masters will be held on the Kitzsteinhorn during the FIS European Cup Finals. The final event will be the elooa CAMP GOOD TIMES by NITRO SNOWBOARDS from May 25 to 29, 2022. A particularly creative and playful snow park will be built after the official end of the season especially for the participants of this snowboard camp and the Nitro Snowboard Team.
