Wednesday, February 20, 2019
On Saturday Feb 16, 2019 it was finally on. About 70 shred-pilgrims came to Snowpark Kitzbühel on a day of glorious sunshine and perfect conditions. They all had one goal: having a blast at the freestyle party of the year. Yet, it wasn’t only about celebrating the sport, but also taking home rad prizes at the Sick Trick Tour Open.

Finest contest action on the new Advanced Line

This bluebird contest day made its way right into the storybooks of the QParks Tour. A massive number of riders, a super high level and of course a badass park made sure that the 4th QParks Tour Stop 2019 is going to be remembered as a season highlight. Right at the beginning, the following question was raised: Will the new Advanced Area of Snowpark Kitzbühel deliver on its promise? And yes, it absolutely did! The perfectly shaped contest setup consisted of five different jumps with consequently massive airtime opportunities. So, it was a perfect playground for all the riders on-site who got to show their skills and craziest tricks.

Sick tricks and heavy spinning

Fynn Koenen (DEU) impressed the judges the most and dominated the Snowboard contest not only in the qualification runs, but also in the finals. It was no big surprise that his rad FS 1080 made him win the Best Trick Award. “I’m super stoked! At the Battle ROJal things didn’t work out. So, I’m even happier that the contest in Kitzbühel went really well!” Angelo Gastl (AUT) came second and Felix Widnig (AUT) finished third. Hayden Harvey-Smith (GBR) took home the win in the Groms category, followed by the Icelandic Benedikt Fridbjornsson (ISL) and Sayan Chumnasiao (AUT). Allen Cerys (GBR) won the Women’s contest in front of Anna Plewa (DEU) and Barbara Mayer (AUT) and the girls showed once more that they can rock the Hanglalm as well.

Prizes, goodies and points

The winners of the Sick Trick Tour Open Kitzbühel 2019 definitely gained some fame and fist bumps for the tricks they stomped. But they were also happy about the fine goodies and cash. Altogether, the riders won €2400 cash. Pinetime, Amplifi, QParks, Blue Tomato, LibTech, Kitz Ski, Kitzbühel, Snowpark Kitzbühel, Element 3, Kitzbüheler Anzeiger, Heineken and Kitzbüheler Skiclub sponsored rad goodies on top. That’s not all, the freestylers also raised their count in the QParks Tour overall ranking in order to getting invited to the grand tour final. All snowboarders were again able to collect points for the World Snowboard Points List, the World Rookie Rank and the Snowboard Austria Cup Tour.

Mission accomplished – Big success all the way

There’s no doubt that the Sick Trick Tour Open were a huge success in all kinds of aspects. After all, the – not so secret, yet bullet-proof – ingredients for a rad contest are a banger setup, motivated riders and bluebird skies. We can tick off all three points or in other words: Mission accomplished!

Now, the only thing left is shredding down memory lane once in a while. Best way to do this is browsing the contest photos which you can find on the Snowpark Kitzbühel website and on the QParks Tour website.
