Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP) and Francisco Ordonhas (POR) have won the World Surf League (WSL) Edommo Junior Pro Razo Presented by Espazo Nature in fun one-to-two foot surf to cap off the penultimate stop on the WSL Europe Junior Tour. The next and final stop in Morocco will determine the WSL Europe Junior Champions and the region’s qualifiers for the WSL World Junior Championships.

Spanish Star Carla Morera De La Vall Outsurfs Field To Claim Top Spot

Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP) outsmarted and outsurfed her competitors once again to take her second JQS victory of the season. The 14-year-old showed maturity in her competitive approach in Razo, often coming from behind to take the win without allowing the pressure to overcome her. De La Vall’s success in Razo also means she’s created more breathing room at the top of the rankings.

“It feels amazing to not just have one win, but two wins this season,” said De La Vall. “It gives me a lot of confidence, and I’m really excited for the next event in Morocco. Qualifying for the WSL World Junior Championships has been my number one goal, and I think I have a good chance to qualify with where I’m on the rankings, so I’m super excited for what’s to come.”

It was a nail-biting back-and-forth battle between De La Vall and Maria Dias (POR) in the women’s Final. Dias got to her feet quickly to put the first score on the board, but De La Vall was right on her heels. Dias was determined to improve her backup score, staying busy and catching plenty of waves. Lilou Rumiel (FRA) also took this approach, while Enara Palacios (ESP) waited patiently for better opportunities. Dias managed to improve her score, but at the same time De La Vall found a great wave and displayed her fast and powerful surfing to get the best score of the heat, edging out Dias by a small margin.

De La Vall comfortably won her Semifinal heat ahead of Rumiel to advance to the Finals, her third Finals appearance this season. Rumiel, in her final year as a Junior, earned a career-best result after finally making it past the Quarterfinals round and into her first-ever JQS Final. Enara Palacios (ESP) put on a show in the second Semifinal, taking out the win with a total of 13.60 ahead of Maria Dias (POR), and upsetting the No. 2 ranked Maria Salgado (POR). The 19-year-old Palacios earned a career-best result here in Razo after taking a break from WSL competitions last year, while Dias was back in the Final after earning a third-place finish here in 2023.

Francisco Ordonhas Puts On Class Performance For First-Ever JQS Win

Capping off his final year as a junior in style, the 2024 European Junior Champion Francisco Ordonhas (POR) won his first-ever JQS title with an incredible performance in the Final. The 20-year-old goofy-foot from Cascais has had some mixed results this year across the Junior and Qualifying Series (QS), but something clicked into place for him in Razo, winning every single heat this week until he stood on top of the podium.

“It feels so good,” said Ordonhas. “It’s my first win in the Pro Juniors. Last year I was European champion, but couldn’t get a win. So I’m really stoked, I’ve been searching for this win for a long time. The conditions were tricky this whole week, but it was pleasant, because the weather was so good and little to no wind, so it was a good week.”

Ordonhas opened the Final with a solid 6.00 to take the lead and put the pressure on the rest of the field. He stayed busy, searching up and down the lineup for more scoring potential. He finally found it towards the end of the heat, throwing everything he had at the wave to score a 7.33. Time ran out for Conor Donegan Dos Santos (ESP) and Eder Fuentes (EUK) to try and catch up, and it was enough to secure the win with a total of 13.33, with Alfonso Suarez (ESP) settling for second place.

Eder Fuentes (EUK) finally broke his streak of 13th place finishes this season when he booked his ticket to his first JQS Final. Fuentes won the first men’s Semifinal ahead of Conor Donegan Dos Santos (ESP). Staying patient and waiting for the better waves paid off for Francisco Ordonhas (POR) and Alfonso Suarez (ESP) in the second Semifinal. Suarez was tied with João Mendonça (POR) on the scoreboard, but advanced thanks to his single best wave score of 5.27.

Razo Rearranges Junior Tour Rankings

While the women’s rankings at the top stayed steady, there’s been more shuffling on the men’s side with one event left. Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP) remains in the top spot, with Maria Salgado (POR) in second and Naïa Monte (FRA) in third.

Alfonso Suarez (ESP) moved into the top spot with his runner-up finish in Razo, while Dylan Donegan Dos Santos (ESP) slipped down to second on the rankings and Francisco Ordonhas (POR) moved up to third.

The next and final stop is the Junior Pro Taghazout Bay in Morocco, with a competition window from November 5-9, 2025.
