Inaugural 2021 Liga Surfing Indonesia Gets Underway with 9 of 15 Clubs Completing First Events on 23rd of May

The inaugural 2021 Liga Surfing Indonesia season is now underway, with 9 of the 15 member clubs having run their first club events last Sunday the 23rd of May in some of Indonesia’s most famous beaches including Uluwatu, Kuta, Canggu, Scar Reef and Cimaja to name but a few.

Over 500 surfers from as young as 6 years old up to 50 years old plus were at the beach and out in the water with their local clubs last Sunday, sharing good times with friends and family in healthy and constructive competition, with the winners and finalists bringing home trophies and prizes, all with the good memories and the motivation to do even better at the next event.

LiveHeats Contest Management

Fees for the 2021 season have been generously paid by Boardriders (Quiksilver/Billabong) and Rip Curl based here in Bali in support of the development and progression of the Indonesian surf community, as this great program allows fans, surfers, and management to view and track the event activity both while the event is on and to view historical data after the event.

LSI Schedule and Detail

Once each club has completed 3 events they can participate in the Qualifying Event, where each eligible club brings only its best 4 surfers from each division (determined by their LiveHeats members ranking).

After the mid-year Qualification event, each club will complete 2 more club events, and the rankings will be updated. The clubs that have qualified will be invited to the Grand Final Event, bringing their best 4 surfers from each division to compete for prizes and prize money and championship. There will also be a Team Challenge division to determine the Best Surf Club.

Divisions:

Push In: 10 and Under (Mixed)

Junior: 16 and Under (Boy’s and Girl’s Divisions)

Open: 17 to 35 (Men’s and Women’s Divisions)

Masters: Over 35 (Mixed)

Events Schedule:

Member Surf Club event #1 = 30 May

Member Surf Club event #2 = 27 June

Member Surf Club event #3 = 18 July

Qualifying Event - 21-22 August (Location TBD)

Member Surf Club event #4 = 19 September

Member Surf Club event #5 = 10 October

Grand Final Event - 23-24 October (Location TBD)

About the Liga Surfing Indonesia

The focus of the LSI is on providing Indonesia’s current and future boardriders clubs with the opportunity to be part of a system that will result in them playing a key role in the development of surfing talent, growing the surf industry, and growing surfing tourism in Indonesia. Having them to fund and organize several of their own surfing events each year has them acting as a business entity, event organizer and media creator in addition to the development and nurturing of the surfing talent in their community.
