ANOTHER YEAR OF ABSOLUTE BANGERS – The 17th edition of Swatch Nines has concluded in Switzerland in a flurry of innovation, creativity and unparalleled action. And here’s the first part, out of three, of our highlight edit to get a glimpse into the past week.

The annual ski and snowboard progression session returned for the third time to the atmospheric slopes of the Schilthorn, where one of the most playful and creative setups in the history of the Nines provided an unmatched venue for fun and progression.

The 2025 Swatch Nines setup featured a massive Big Air jump designed for the world’s best to push their air tricks to the limit. But in typical Nines fashion, it wasn’t just about adding an extra spin or flip to the world’s most difficult tricks. The setup also provided a vast variety of creative snow features designed to get creative juices flowing. The result? One of the most highlight-heavy weeks of the season for the world’s freestyle ski and snowboard elite.

On top of that, Øyvind Kirkhus (SNB, NOR) landed a switch backside quad 1620 — a world’s first trick in snowboarding while Luca Harrington (SKI, NZL) stomped a switch triple cork 1980 Esco — only the third time this trick has been landed by a skier. And Vincent Veile (SKI, GER) became the first German, and third person ever, to land a quad cork 1800.

Also some heavy action went down on the teardrop rail, with jaw-dropping tricks from the likes of Mia Brookes (SNB, GBR), Max Moffatt (SKI, USA), Lyon Farrell (SNB, NZL) and Kirsty Muir (SKI, GBR).

Qualifying Day Highlights | The Snow League, Event One | Aspen Snowmass 2025

Qualifying Day of The Snow League brought serious competition to ‪@aspensnowmass‬ narrowing the field to eight men and eight women for Finals Day. Ayumu Hirano and Maddie Mastro led the way as top qualifiers, each earning five bonus points in the Snow League World Championship Standings. The new format pushed riders to showcase creativity and versatility, with head-to-head matchups set to determine the first-ever Snow League champion. With $370,000 in prize money on the line, the stage is set for an epic Finals Day showdown.

We asked Method Mag to come on-site and showcase what's really happening at the Swatch Nines!

"We were asked to come to the Swatch Nines and report whatever snowboard related action was going on there in the lovely resort of Schilthorn. And what a crazy week it was! The weather kept us down in the village at first, so we improvised a little street session with Simon Gschaider and the hotel golf cart. A pretty unusual start for an event like this... But soon enough we got to go up and see the crazy set-up and the insane riding that went along with it. We even witnessed a couple world records for highest air on what they called a "perfect hip". It was more like a "giant hip" to us, but hey, they're the professional designers, not us. After a couple parties here and there, a quick visit to the James Bond museum (apparently the worst James Bond movie ever made), a nice dinner in a spinning restaurant at the top of the mountain, Chaeun's birthday, some epic snowboarding under a burning sun and maybe the rowdiest Field Report we did so far, we went home with some nice souvenirs and full SD cards. Thus, this edit."

Brooke D’Hondt - World Record - Highest Air on a Hip at Swatch Nines 2024

On Thursday, the 11th of April 2024, Brooke D’Hondt (CAN) established the first official record for highest air on a hip by a female snowboarder at Schilthorn, Switzerland during Swatch Nines. She reached an astonishing height of 7.3 meters (23.9 feet), setting a formidable new bar for the sport.

“I always wanted to come to this event, and having a bigger hip feature is kind of playing to my strengths,” said D’Hondt. “It definitely does not get easier standing up there. Especially the first one of the day, it’s just as scary as the first time ever hitting it. But the feeling of stomping it, nothing beats it.”

What is SuperPipe?

Known as Half Pipe at the first three X Games events, the discipline’s name was changed to SuperPipe for X Games Mount Snow 2000 to reflect its super growth.

Sometimes called the U-ditch or frozen taco, SuperPipe is a long, U-shaped course with steep walls and tightly compacted snow -- competition pipes are rock hard to allow competitors better launch and more consistent takeoffs and landings.

Athletes traverse back and forth across the pipe, throwing tricks above the pipe’s “deck.” Competitors can soar more than 20 feet above the deck, or around 45 feet above the pipe’s flatbottom. That’s more than 4 stories high! Depending on the angle of their approach and the distance traveled down the pipe with each trick, SuperPipe competitors usually log between 4-6 tricks in a full run.
