2021 WEST COAST TOYOTA PRIME SERIES SEASON OPENS IN HUNTINGTON BEACH

After just over a year of Covid-19 cancellations, the best under 18 surfers on the West Coast were back in jerseys and going big at the Toyota USA Surfing Prime Series in Huntington Beach, Calif. Wave conditions shifted from grindy and blown out to off shore and groomed with surfers having to adjust and chase opportunities.

USA SURFING TOYOTA PRIME SERIES UPDATE

USA Surfing's Team Toyota junior Prime Series season will start on the West Coast at Steamer Lane Santa Cruz on January 17 & 18, 2021 and on the East Coast at Sebastian Inlet, January 22 - 24, 2021.

Steamer Lane and Sebastian Inlet are both outstanding venues. USA Surfing junior surfers will be carving up the same high-performance wave WSL CT surfers event will face at Steamer Lane, while Sebastian Inlet is the longtime site of the Florida Pro.

Surf competitions remain restricted in California. The Governor’s office delayed the announcement on hosting competitive events until December 15 with the caveat that due to the spike in cases, he doesn’t expect youth sports to resume until well after the first of the year.

Based on this we regret that we will be unable to hold the USA Surfing Championships for 2020. We considered running on the East Coast and applaud Janice Aragon for pulling off an epic OBX NSSA Champs when Covid numbers were down. Current travel advisories and case numbers prevent doing so now.

We took advantage of the down time to revamp our membership and qualification system. Stay tuned for details on membership, Prime qualification for the 2021 season and new sanctioned events that will count toward qualification for USA Surfing Championships. We could not be more excited to see our Prime surfers back in Team Toyota jerseys.school and open community programs, allowing them to continue mentoring boys to achieve their dreams.

USA Surfing Championships 2017

The 2017 USA Surfing championships just wrapped up on June 22, 2017 at Lower Trestles in San Onofre State Park, San Clemente, CA. Over 200 of the nation's best young surfers threw down for four days at the cobblestone beach just south of San Clemente. This was also a big day for the organization - during the awards ceremony, USA Surfing announced it would be the National Governing Body for surfing in the United States, granting leadership by the United States Olympic Committee. This status solidifies USA Surfing's authority as the organization responsible for developing and fielding the first U.S. Surf Team when Surfing makes its debut in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
