You’re gonna need to find out whether you’re regular or goofy foot to start off with (and then later you can feel like a beginner all over again, when you start learning everything switch stance! Whhhooooooo hoooo!).
If you’re lost already, then this clip explains goofy and regular stance, and most importantly mongo stance too!
So, how do you know which you are? There are several ways to sort this one out. Apparently it’s got nothing to do with which hand you write with - so forget that as a method of knowing right now!!
You can try any of the methods here:
www.tactics.com/info/learning-to-skateboard tactics recommends having a mate push you… nice page with other great tips too!
skateboard.about.com/od/tricktips/ss/JustStartingOut_3.htm kicking a ball plus others
www.skateboardhere.com/skateboard-stance.html slide an icy puddle...
And check these clips to determine which you are:
So hopefully you’ve got some idea now which you might be… although it can’t be stressed enough that you should go on FEEL above anything. If in doubt, try both, and it should be obvious which stance your body feels more confident using. Oh… and avoid riding Mongo foot!
For more in-depth viewing the following vids go on to explain all-important beginner moves such as pushing off and mastering tic tacs. So what you waiting for?! Watch, digest and go get your ride on!
