Today, Sol Borelli (ESP) and Lukas Skinner (GBR) won the World Surf League (WSL) Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) 1,000, the Morocco Mall Junior Pro Casablanca in four-to-six-foot surf for an action-packed Finals Day. After a long week of competition, with more than 150 athletes from all over Europe and Africa, Borelli and Skinner came out on top with Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP) and Joshua Karbus (IRL) finishing runners-up.

Ain Diab left the best for last, with pumping four-to-six-foot surf and offshore winds on Finals Day, and the juniors stepped up their game. Excellent scores dropped in every round from the men and women in the Quarterfinals to the Final, keeping the stoke levels high for the first stop of the Junior Tour, a co-sanctioned event between Europe and Africa

Sol Borelli Wins Debut Junior Title

The pendulum swung in the favour of Sol Borelli (ESP) today when she won her first-ever JQS title, a career-best result, overcoming an in-form Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP), Ibone Gomez (ESP) and Lily Hirigoyen (FRA) in the Final. Borelli ended the 2025 season with a runner-up at the Junior Pro Taghazout Bay, but today she finally tasted victory in Casablanca.

Borelli had to fight for this victory, with De La Vall opening the Final with a 7.17 (out of a possible 10). While De La Vall stayed selective with her wave choices, Borelli gave herself more opportunities to build a better score. Her confidence got a boost when she found a great wave for a 7.57, the best score of the heat, and then backed it up with a 6.00 for a total of 13.57 (out of a possible 20). De La Vall’s response came up short, and Borelli secured the win with De La Vall settling for runner-up.

Lukas Skinner Scores Perfect 10 For Victory

The men’s Final was an entertaining battle with Hans Odriozola (DEU) and Alai Rodriguez Albeniz (FRA) getting the first scores on the board. Rising star Joshua Karbus (IRL) turned the tables around when he got his best two waves back-to-back, and this seemed to really get Lukas Skinner (GBR) fired up. The British surf prodigy found a solid set wave to open up with a huge turn, before speeding down the line towards a big section where he launched a clean frontside grab-rail air and a smooth landing, scoring a perfect 10.00. With a backup of 4.60, Skinner claimed the victory with a total of 14.60 ahead of runner-up Karbus, followed by Odriozola and Albeniz.

Skinner was loving the bigger conditions today, taking a win in his Quarterfinal heat and scoring an excellent 8.33 in the Semifinals. The 18-year-old from Cornwall is now leading the European Junior rankings at the start of the season, with Ireland’s Karbus in second place, a remarkable feat for two nations that aren’t always considered to be surfing powerhouses.

Levi Epenetos (RSA) and Maria Elouedrhiri (MAR) are leading the Africa rankings, with both athletes earning Quarterfinal appearances in Casablanca.

The next stop on the Junior Tour for Europe will be the GADIS Junior Pro Ferrol from June 24-28, while the next stop in Africa will be the Rip Curl Vic Bay Surf Pro Junior from June 19-21.

The 2026 Morocco Mall Junior Pro Casablanca is supported by the City of Casablanca, the Moroccan National Tourist Office, Morocco Mall, Afriquia Gaz, Marsa Maroc, Seat Maroc, CIH Bank, Aïn Atlas, Butec, 2M, 2M Radio, Hit Radio and Radio Mars.

For more information, please visit WorldSurfLeague.com.
